Carrots used to be Purple Color

The orange color of carrots that we have come to be so familiar with is not their natural color. In fact, carrots were modified by their Dutch growers in the 17th century to match their national color.

A search for "purple carrots" revealed a number of images of present day purple carrots, like the ones in the picture. Carrots also come in shades of red in certain parts of the world.

Scientists are also engineering "supercarrots" that provide much more calcium than the normal variety. | Site Maintained by Shyam Srinivas | Admin Login
